Tonight a programme on BBC2 shows how Chavez knew about the coming coup and how he prepared for it. Basically, a friend from OPEC told him that the US would organize the coup from fear that Venezuela would join some Arab countries in an embargo because of the us support of Israel. So the US is definitely implicated in the coup, as apparently Chavez himself says in the documentary. Check out an article about this.
